All have the distinctive art deco styling of bright, high-contrast coloring, dramatic geometric patterns, new metals such as aluminum and stainless steel, the use of inlays and enamels and influences including Cubism, Dali and classic Egyptian patterns inspired by the 1922 opening of King Tut's tomb. The freestanding clocks, in the style of the art-deco skyscrapers being designed at the time, look like little buildings.
Director Jennifer Carroll said the exhibit is a departure for the museum, whose 5,500-piece collection usually focuses on pre-20th-century clockmakers such as Eli Terry of Terryville."We've been very clock-centric for so many years. We wanted to put more emphasis on Cheap Fashion Watches. At that time, the watch industry was evolving," Carroll said. "Nowadays, you can see the time everywhere you go, and kids grow up in homes without clocks. But people are interested in watches from a fashion standpoint."
Carroll worked with Strickland Vintage Watches of Tampa, Fla., on the exhibit. Many of the timepieces are owned by the museum and many by Strickland, which also contributed vintage art deco advertising posters for watches, including one for the Gruen Curvex wristwatch inspired by Salvador Dali's drooping watches.
Advertising was necessary, Carroll said, because new techniques in metallurgy were making watches more affordable, not just something for the elite, and during the Depression era the people needed to see that.“With the demand high and the supply low, the value of these watches will be extremely high,” said Hamilton Powell, president and founder of Crown & Caliber, Atlanta.jk5afF324
The impressive watches continue to strike the market even today and that too with more customers as compared to the past century. Many luxury watch brands have been established that are producing a huge number of contemporary luxurious watches year after year and there are no signs of declining popularity of watches in the coming time.
“If Vacheron Constantin was not limiting this collection to 50 pieces, Watch Accessories Wholesale enthusiasts would not feel any sense of urgency to purchase the watch,” he said.Isolating the watch to a single location and grafting many Ferrari references onto it adds extra layers of exclusivity that may spur consumers to make the purchase. Partnerships such as this create occasions for unveiling new watches, since a new watch can accompany vehicles designed or events coordinated by the other party (see story).
“Watch enthusiasts will continue to associate Vacheron Constantin with creating rare and valuable watches, helping to increase the demand and perceived value of all Vacheron Constantin models,” said Mr. Powell.“When brands release unique timepieces, it gives them the opportunity to make a place for themselves in the history of watchmaking,” he said. “Luxury watch brands should strive to make contributions to horology.“Offering something unique to watch enthusiasts will ensure that the brand will be around for many generations to come.”
