Tobacco company Altria Group Inc. is launching its first electronic
cigarette-CE4
under the MarkTen brand in Indiana starting in August and expanding its
smokeless product offerings. The owner of the nation's biggest cigarette maker,
Philip Morris USA, announced the details of its NuMark subsidiary's foray into
the fast-growing business Tuesday.
It's the last of the nation's major
tobacco companies to market an electronic cigarette in an industrywide push to
diversify beyond the traditional cigarette business, which has become tougher in
the face of tax hikes, smoking bans, health concerns and social
stigma.
Electronic cigarettes are battery-powered devices that heat a
liquid nicotine solution, creating vapor that users inhale. Devotees say
ego
batteries address both the addictive and behavioral aspects of
smoking. Smokers get their nicotine without the more than 4,000 chemicals found
in regular cigarettes. And they get to hold something shaped like a cigarette,
while puffing and exhaling something that looks like smoke.
More than 45
million Americans smoke cigarettes, and about half of smokers try to quit each
year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.MarkTen is a
disposable e-cigarette but can be reused by buying a separate battery recharging
kit and additional cartridges in both tobacco and menthol flavors. The company
said the e-cigarette's "Four Draw" technology is designed to give users a "more
consistent experience" that closely resembles the draw of a traditional
cigarette.
The e-cigarette, made in China by a contract manufacturer, is
expected to sell for about $9.50. Prices for additional cartridges and
recharging kit were not available. The liquid for the cartridges is being
produced in the U.S.
Last week, Reynolds American Inc., owner of the
nation's second-biggest tobacco company, announced that it is launching a
revamped version of its Vuse brand ego e cig
in Colorado in July, with its sights set on expanding nationally. Lorillard
Inc., the nation's third-biggest tobacco company, acquired e-cigarette maker Blu
Ecigs in April 2012 and has expanded to more than 80,000 retail
outlets.
The market for e-cigarettes, which includes more than 250
brands, has grown from the thousands of users in 2006 to several million
worldwide. Analysts estimate sales could double this year to $1 billion. Some go
as far as saying consumption of e-cigs could surpass consumption of traditional
cigarettes in the next decade.
Tobacco company executives even noted that
e-cigarettes drove total industry cigarette volumes down about 600 million
cigarettes, or about 1 percent, during the first quarter, excluding Internet
sales — a major avenue for e-cig purchases. The Food and Drug Administration
plans to assert regulatory authority over e-cigarettes in the near future.
Public health officials say the safety of e-cigarettes and their effectiveness
in helping people quit regular smokes haven't been fully studied.
Despite
the regulatory uncertainties, electronic cigarettes have attracted the attention
of investors.Electronic cigarette maker Njoy Inc. said Monday it has raised $75
million in financing from investors including Napster founder and entrepreneur
Sean Parker and Homewood Capital principal Douglas Teitelbaum to be used for
marketing, clinical trials, research and development, and international
expansion. Musician Bruno Mars also has invested the company whose Njoy King
disposable ego
cigarette are available in more than 60,000 retail
stores.
Like other tobacco companies, Altria also is focusing on
cigarette alternatives for future sales growth because the decline in cigarette
smoking is expected to continue.

A Watch With A View Of The Solar System
There were plenty of serious watches on display during “Las Vegas Jewelry Week.”
Most of the important new releases I and others on this site covered extensively
at Baselworld. However, there was one exceptional timepiece I missed that was
shown off-site during the discount
watches and jewelry show in Switzerland. I caught up with it and
its owner while in Vegas.
It’s actually more than a timepiece. It is also an orrey, a device that shows the relative positions and motions of bodies in the solar system using balls moved by clockwork. There’s currently only one available and it was on the wrist of Eric Loth, CEO of the watch brand Graham, who was in a suite at the Wynn Las Vegas, separate from the tradeshows on the Las Vegas Strip.
Graham is a maker of automatic watches. The mechanical movement that powers this timepiece was made exclusively for Graham by independent watchmaker, Christophe Claret. Its accuracy is exceptional. Loth explained that the earth revolves at exactly 365 ¼ days so there is no adjustment for the leap year. Corrections to the orbital patterns are minimal and are planned and indicated on the back of the sports watches.
For the moon it’s every seven years, for Mars it’s every 25 years and for the earth (wait for it) every 1,152 years. The moon and mars have self correcting indicators. Loth said the orrery should be functional for 300 years before needing to be taken to a watches for women for a minor adjustment to the perpetual calendar.
If you're into any kind of serious underwater adventuring, you'll probably balk at Swatch's new Scuba Libre line. But at just $90 they're not targeted at timepiece connoisseurs or wannabe Jacques Cousteaus. They're designed for an afternoon at the beach where you won't be too devastated if your watch gets destroyed after an epic tubing run.
Available soon in nine brightly colored designs, the watches for men are rated to a depth of 200 meters and feature basic faces and numbering so they're easy to read even when underwater. Silicone bands keep the watches lightweight, and most of the designs even include a date indicator at the three o'clock mark. It's nice that Swatch is still committed to bright, bold designs, but even nicer that with the Scuba Libres you're also getting some useful functionality at a decent price.

Guilford schools approve cell phone use in class
The use of GT-I9300
cell phones in the classroom has become a hot topic. One local
school district wants to approve using them in classes for learning purposes.
The Guilford Board of Education is working on giving the green light to students
using their smartphones in the classroom.
This is doing a 180 to their policy change going from prohibiting phones all together to encouraging students to use them. None of the board members showed any dissent with the new change. "They're not used for communication or recreation inside a classroom setting, but they may be used for communication outside of classes or in certain inappropriate areas," said Paul Freeman, Board of Education.
Also, this doesn't mean the school will purchase phones for everyone but they will make tablets or smart phones available to everyone in group settings if need be.
Under the proposed policy, teachers will still be able to take away GT-I9500 cell phones if they're being used improperly and the rules will vary from elementary school students to high school students. Many of us never had to worry about the temptation of using a cell phone during school time. Over the last decade, it's been hard to find kids without them. A local school district is presenting a policy in hopes of approving cell phone use in high school classes for learning purposes.
As soon as school lets out, the cell phones come out. But, Guilford High School students say they are still out to some degree in class despite the no phone rule. "I mean, we're teenagers," said Maia Murdock, a senior.Teenagers who love technology for learning purposes according to the principal, Rick Misenti. In some cases, the smartphones are already allowed.sdfdDS2x
"We're allowed to look stuff up on our I5 MTK6577 phone. Obviously, it has to be for school," said Murdock. Monday night, the Policy Committee will submit a proposal to the Board of Education to allow cell phones use in the high school. Misenti says it will allow them direct access to multiple sources of information. "I think it will be a good thing. I think students will be more comfortable around their teachers knowing they're going to let them do something," said Leah Giovanniello, a junior.
Students admit even if they have the phone on silent and see a text come across or hear the sound, they're going to be tempted to write back. That's where parents worry the educational environment will turn into a social environment. When asked what would he say to the parents who don't like it, Misenti said, "I have a great degree of confidence, not just in our students but teachers as well, that they'll use this new policy to their advantage as well to move kids forward."
"By having it approved it's just going to be very problematic and then it's going to move on to things like cheating," said a parent. We asked Misenti if the cheap cell phone cases phones would be allowed during tests. He says that will likely be the teacher's call. Parents and educators will have a chance to weigh in before a decision is made.

Tablets find a home in more U.S. homes
The love affair between Americans and their 7 inch tablet and
smartphones shows no sign of abating.More than four out of 10 (44%) now own a
tablet computer, up from 30% last year, according to a new survey from Frank N.
Magid Associates. Ownership is even higher, at 54%, among those ages 18 to
34.
As Apple heads into its annual Worldwide Developers Conference Monday, the tablet competition has caught up. Android-based devices are owned by 59% of tablet owners — matching the penetration of Apple's iPad and iPad Mini. Both platforms can exceed 50%, because some homes have more than one type of tablet.
The likely reason? Once a home gets one tablet, they need a spare. "People are fighting over these at home, that's my guess. I've certainly heard it anecdotally," says Mike Vorhaus, head of the company's Magid Advisors unit. The research firm last month surveyed more than 2,400 Americans with Internet access, ages 8 to 64, about tablet and smartphone ownership.
"When people get a 10 inch tablets, they love it," he says. "It does basically everything. You can play games. You can watch video. You can do business e-mail, and you can stay in touch with your social network. It's pretty powerful."
When it comes to smartphones, the iPhone remains the most popular, owned by 41% of smartphone owners. But, when combined, Android phones from multiple makers, including Samsung and LG, outnumber iPhones, with 53% of smartphone owners using them. As they do with tablets, some smartphone owners (8%) have more than one.
Local manufacturer CCE will manufacture tablets based on Qualcomm reference designs and its Snapdragon processors. It is expected that the two 8 inch tablet will be available in seven and ten-inch sizes and will be equipped with the Snapdragon 400 MSM 8230 1,2 GHz chip and the MSM 8030 1,4 GHz model. Both are dual-core processors.sdfdDS2x
At Computex in Taipei last week, Qualcomm expanded its Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD) portfolio to include tablets. Qualcomm demonstrated two tablets (7 and 10-inch) manufactured by Digibras under its CCE brand. The Brazilian company already has a similar reference design arrangement with Qualcomm for smartphones.
CCE did not comment on other details with relation to the new tablets, but said the prices will be "very competitive".At the time, Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff went to China to discuss partnerships and came back vowing to bring tablets for sale computing to the masses and foster growth of that particular manufacturing segment. Two years on, a quick browse for tablet computers in Brazilian price comparison websites such as this will show that dream is now becoming a reality.

But there are much more affordable alternatives: CCE itself retails its own latest android tablet for an average price of R$300 ($140).sdfdDS2x
The news of the Qualcomm-CCE partnership bring me back to 2011, when the potential $18bn Foxconn investment in Brazil was covered to death by the Brazilian tech press and ended up being played down by the company itself and the government. At the time, Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff went to China to discuss partnerships and came back vowing to bring tablet computing to the masses and foster growth of that particular manufacturing segment.
“We will have a lot of work ahead, we will have to train Brazilians to work in this area of information technology. But one thing is certain: companies are not coming here by accident,” the president said back then.“We will popularize these devices. We want any citizen to be able to afford them,” she added.

While this may be making the lives of harried suburbanites more convenient, it’s terrifying media industries that haven’t figured out how to take advantage of the devices as quickly as Americans are buying them. This week that tension will be apparent at E3, the video game industry’s premier trade show. The event is getting under way Monday with announcements from such companies as Sony (SNE) and Microsoft (MSFT). While console makers are battling each other, they’re also facing pressure from simpler games that can be downloaded cheaply into smartphones and tablets.
Apparently Acer plans on releasing an extra-cost ($90) full-laptop-size keyboard that's considerably larger than the tablet, but early prototypes of the keyboard left much to be desired. The keyboard's designed with a recessed area in back that will accommodate the tablets for sale.If that were the whole story, the first mini-Win8 tablet would hardly rate a whiz in an expectorating contest. But there are two redeeming social factors.

Presence of the Trend - Fashion Involved in Sunglasses
Young people, especially girls, are quite into sunglasses, since they can
perfectly cover some imperfections of face shape and replace with fashion sense.
buy glasses

cover more. This keeps a certain distance from others. Fashion involves a sense
of being different and superior. In some way, proper distance makes fashion.
Sunglasses perform well in this aspect.
There are several types of sunglasses frames for choice: round, oval, oblong, D-frame, etc. Common frames like round and oblong are always classic fashion that never fades. While new type like D-frame contains up-to-date element young people today are unceasingly chasing for. That is individual fashion.xc5CGsdh

There are inlaying diamonds, carving patterns, hollows, laser markings and other fashionable decorative crafts utilized in the design and production of the legs. Detail reflects quality. This is the simple but significant point which famous firms never neglect.

Choose the fashionable pair that suits you and feel brand-new.For women, the variety of sunglasses is even more diverse just as it is for men as almost every accessory a woman owns is related to fashion. However, given the importance of sunglasses, many women believe that owning only the most expensive, top of the line fashion sunglasses can truly make them look good. Our perceptions are shaped in such a way that make us feel that we can only get something that is good for us if it is expensive. However, if we think just a little more practically, we will find that this is not so and that we can get away with the same with a lot less.

Server logs hint at new versions of iPhone and iPad running iOS 7
In a routine scan of their logs, they noticed what appeared to be evidence of
someone testing a new cheap iphone 4 cases
and iPad using the new iOS 7.But Trademob Chief Executive Ravi Kamran said what
caught the eye of folks at the company were identifiers for hardware they had
not seen before. The known identifiers for current and past models of the iPhone
and iPad can be seen here.
The last identifiers for the iPhone 5 were iPhone5,1 and iPhone5,2. The last identifier for the iPad was iPad3,6. But on the logs for what Kamran said were the "world's largest hotel booking app" and an app from one of the "world's largest gaming companies," his company spotted someone downloading the apps to devices with the identifiers iPhone6,2 and iPad4,2.
Kamran said he couldn't disclose the name of the company's partners whose apps were downloaded.Still, that pattern seemed to indicate that someone was testing how apps downloaded onto current and old gadgets, as well as new ones in the works, Kamran said. "We were like, 'Whoa!" he said. "Maybe we're getting a new cheap iphone 4s cases sooner than we expected."
In the case of the iPad, this would be the fifth version of the gadget. As for the iPhone, it's unclear from the logs whether it would be the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S. The identifier numbers don't necessarily correspond to the version of the phone. For instance, the first iPhone 4 had an identifier of iPhone3,1.
Speculation has been that the company will likely launch a new iPhone this fall. The logs don't give any indication of what new specs and features it might have. Citi Research analyst Glen Yeung called this big-screen model iPhone 6 and said it is likely to be launched in the first quarter of 2014. This smartphone has come up as iPhone Math in previously leaks. Apart from the 4.8-inch screen, it is rumoured to have an 8MP camera, while other details are yet unknown.xc5CGsdh
Don’t expect anything on the new iPhone 5S or apple accessories, or whatever the next iteration of the popular mobile phone will be. That’s probably being saved for the usual fall release.
Today will all be about a new version of the iPhone and iPad operating system, also known as iOS. And it’s liable to be a big change from before.
Since the first iPhone debuted six years ago, its operating system has been based on one design philosophy, known as skeuomorphism, in which the look of the interface is based on textured, everyday household objects. For example, the "Game Center" feature is covered with green felt and wood trim, like a playing card table. The "Contacts" template is made to look like a day planner, and the best iphone 4s accessories and iPad clock looks like an old analog face with a ticking second hand.
